Good morning. We begin with an emergency declaration in southern West Virginia, where communities are reeling from severe storms, flash flooding, and landslides. Governor Patrick Morrisey officially declared a State of Emergency for Boone, Logan, and Raleigh counties after a series of slow-moving storm systems dumped over six inches of rain on the region. State officials report extensive damage to roads, bridges, homes, and local businesses, with the emergency order slated to remain in effect for the next thirty days.In major environmental news, the federal government has reached a massive four-hundred-and-fifty-million-dollar multi-state settlement with chemical giant Chemours over the years-long, illegal discharge of toxic "forever chemicals." Filed in West Virginia federal court, the agreement addresses decade-long Clean Water Act violations. Chemours will pay a twenty-two-point-five-million-dollar civil penalty and spend ninety million dollars to mitigate PFAS discharges, which includes installing strict pollution controls and supplying clean drinking water to contaminated communities surrounding its Washington Works plant.Meanwhile, a major public health policy pushed by the governor's office has been struck down in court. A federal judge officially blocked a policy that would have prevented West Virginia SNAP recipients from using food stamps to buy soda and candy. The court ruled the U-S Department of Agriculture exceeded its legal authority by approving the state-level restrictions without congressional approval. The Morrisey administration expressed deep disappointment with the ruling but says it remains committed to finding ways to promote healthier choices. In tragic local news out of Putnam County, two Poca parents are behind bars after their one-year-old daughter suffered a life-threatening fentanyl overdose. Sheriff’s deputies say medics successfully administered Narcan to save the infant’s life at a Maplewood Avenue apartment on Tuesday. A police search later revealed dozens of used syringes and loose prescription pills left within reach of the child. Both parents face felony charges of child neglect resulting in injury. And in better news, country music fans can get ready to secure their seats. Rising country star Ella Langley has announced a stop in Charleston for her upcoming Dandelion Tour. Tickets for the September twelfth show at the municipal auditorium officially go on sale tomorrow morning. For more news from across the state, download the radioNOVO app. I’m Codi Gaboff, radioNOVO News.
